Description for 2022/23

This module is designed for students who have successfully completed French 2 (or equivalent). Students will be involved in a variety of experiences through audio-material integrated within the course, enabling them to participate in conversations and situations. The module exploits every aspect of language-learning methods, providing reinforcement of new ideas by carefully designed exercises and supporting material both from the coursebook and from the KLE.
The language level for this module corresponds to work leading to Level A2 of the Common European Language Framework (CEFR - A2).

Students who have basic knowledge of written and spoken French will acquire more knowledge and develop writing, reading, speaking and listening skills, as well as an understanding of French life and culture.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Read short, simple texts and extract information from everyday materials, for example letters,advertisements, menus, timetables: 2
Interact in simple and routine exchanges of information on familiar topics and activities: 1,2
Speak using simple phrases to describe a range of topics, such as family and friends, other people, living conditions, education, work: 1
Understand phrases and vocabulary relating to areas of immediate personal relevance, catching the main point in short, clear, simple messages and statements: 1
Recognize and act upon cultural differences encountered in everyday situations and demonstrate knowledge of common traditions in the French speaking world: 1,2
Recognize simple grammatical structures in French and compare them to the English language: 1,2
Write short, simple notes and messages, for example a personal letter of thanks: 2

Study hours

20 hours of synchronous and asynchronous class time
100 hours class preparation and revision and private study
22 hours revision for and completion of written exam
8 hours preparation for and attendance at spoken interaction exam

School Rules

Admission to the module must be confirmed through completion of a language level self-assessment form
Students are only permitted to take one French language module per semester.
