The module content is central to the study of Human Resource Management (HRM) covering: the process for resolving disciplinary cases and grievances; the management of dismissal, redundancy and retirement; flexibility and work-life balance; performance management; equality and diversity; and health and safety at work. The module provides students, from a conceptual and theoretical perspective, with an understanding of some of the core issues and processes involved in HRM, which are crucial to professional practice.
Aims
To develop a critical understanding of the theory and practice of Human Resource Management and of selected managerial practices associated with it. To develop an understanding of workplace procedures (e.g. discipline and grievance, health and safety, equality) and the management of dismissal, redundancy and retirement.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Essay weighted 50%1,000 words essayThe essay will cover the early part of the module. The essay is expected to be diagnostic as well as summative to enable tutors to spot poor academic writing skills and recommend remedies through feedback. This is part of a continuous process within the school.
2: Open Book Examination weighted 50%Open-Book AssessmentAssessment 2 is an Open-Book Assessment which will be available on KLE for 28-hours to answer and submit your answer via Turnitin File. Although students have been given significant time to complete this assignment script, we expect most students to spend no more than 3 hours to complete and submit their answers via Turnitin (with a maximum of 3,000 words). Answers should be as accurate and concise as possible.
