Description for 2022/23

This module introduces you to the key institutions, methods and principles of UK Constitutional Law.
Emphasis is placed on discovering the basic foundations for the legal relationships between the citizen and the state - and the status of the various public law players (the legislature, government departments and the courts). The module examines the reality of power relations inherent in a modern democracy and the necessity for, and the importance of, recent Human Rights legislation.
The module also introduces you to the fundamental principles which lie behind the practice public law generally.

Aims
To introduce students to the key institutions, methods and principles of UK Constitutional Law.
Students will critically assess the importance of UK Constitutional Law as a site of engagement for individuals and groups interested in legal reforms by conducting legal research and solving practical problems.
