Are you interested in creating beats, arranging audio and making tracks with your computer? This module sets you up with the fundamental skills and know-how to create your own music through a range of practical techniques and skills for sequencing audio creativity. In this module you will get to grips with common workflows in the music production industry via hands-on project conception and management, building fluency with a wide range of audio productions tools.
Aims
This module aims to introduce the fundamental concepts of working with audio within Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) and sequencing software. Students will explore the breadth of audio formats, audio editing functionality, processing and mixing capabilities for a range of practical projects. The module aims to provide key skills in critical listening, creating bespoke audio/music, beat programming techniques and concepts of arranging to build competency in music production work. The module aims to cultivate artistic development via the range of contemporary genres, styles and project work covered in class.
Intended Learning Outcomes

24 hours of contact time, to include: lectures, workshop, demonstrations and tutorials:-12 hours lectures-6 hours workshops, demonstrations-6 hours small group tutorials Individual study:20 hours of reflection and consolidation of lecture, workshop and individual supervision content and individual or group study work.20 hours of listening to recommended visual media, reflection and implementation of technical aspects based on lecture content. 26 hours of practical work to carry out project tasks, familiarisation with software and adoption of relevant techniques (based on instructional material on virtual learning environment).60 hours of preparation of the creative brief assessment and supporting documentation.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Project weighted 100%Creative production project (following a brief)Students will be required to complete a music production project lasting 3-4 minutes following a brief designed to allow students to apply key skills in critical listening, creating bespoke audio/music, beat programming techniques and concepts of arranging. Students are expected to demonstrate artistic and technical development via the range of contemporary genres, styles and project work covered in class.
