This module will equip you with a firm grounding in the person-centred counselling perspective, including an exploration of Rogers¿ model of personality, and model of therapeutic change. Your learning will be underpinned by a combination of traditional lecture-style classes and discussion-focused seminars, alongside independent study, and you will be encouraged to study both classic texts and current research within the field. The foundational knowledge achieved during this module will then prepare you to develop a more applied approach in subsequent modules within the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling programme.
Aims
This module builds upon PSY-10021, Understanding Self and Others, and provides students with a solid foundation in person-centred counselling theory, which will underpin the counselling content of the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling programme for the remainder of Levels 5 and 6.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Short Paper weighted 30%BlogStudents will write a short blog article (750- 1000 words) aimed at a lay audience who may be interested in seeking counselling, outlining the key principles of person-centred counselling. Support around blog writing will be provided within the teaching sessions on the module.
2: Essay weighted 70%Essay2000 words, focused on academic discussion and personal reflection on a core theoretical principle covered within the module. Students will be given a choice, and should write one from four titles. Support around writing reflectively will be provided during teaching sessions on the module.
