Description for 2022/23

Psychology in Education is designed to develop students' understanding of psychological theory, research and practice in education. The sessions will introduce theories and research and then ask students to put this into practice in a variety of ways for a variety of audiences. The module will draw on authentic educational settings and practices to look at the ways in which psychology can be used to improve learning in children and young people.
By the end of the module, students will be able to apply their psychological knowledge in a practical way to enhance educational experiences.

Aims
The aim of the module is to introduce students to the application of psychology to education, covering theory, research and practice. The module also invites students to apply knowledge to educational situations which will help them to consider the applied impact of their studies.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Essay weighted 100%
3000-word problem-based essay
The assessment takes the form of a problem-based essay where students will be asked to apply psychology to an educational problem which will be provided in the brief. They will need to justify why it is important to intervene and justify the nature of their intervention using relevant literature. The word count will be 3000 words and they will be supported to develop appropriate skills relate to the assessment in the taught sessions.
