Description for 2022/23

This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Science programme at Keele University, an innovative, integrated programme which prepares the graduate for further study or employment in a health and social care setting.
This module will equip students with a knowledge underpinning exercise science principles which will enable students to put disability and physical functioning into context. This module will also contain a strong emphasis on identification of abnormal responses to physical activity testing and interpretation of tests results. This will enable students to develop and build upon the attributes of logical thinking and analysis of complex information.

Aims
To equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge regarding principles of exercise science in relation to specialist populations.
To enable students to relate exercise principles to functional assessment to promote independence and exercise prescription in the context of disability and common global conditions.

Successful completion of a minimum of 105 credits of the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Science at Level 4, normally at Keele University.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Workbook weighted 100%
Completion of a workbook containing sample data of typical case scenarios
Students will complete a workbook during the module. The workbook will contain sample physiological data of typical case scenarios with underlying pathologies from three different specialist populations (of which student will analysis 2 sets). Students will analyse the data in order to identify how the results may be different from those without the underpinning pathology. In addition students will discuss the impact of ageing on individuals with particular conditions. While compiling an exercise programme for 1one individualised patient from any of the subgroups. Word count 2500 (2 x 1000 for case studies; 500 words for exercise plan)
