Description for 2022/23

The Practice in Specific Populations module builds on content introduced in Year 1 of the MSci Physiotherapy programme and enables the student to assess and manage patients in specific populations (such as end of life, paediatrics, intensive care, falls) through clinical reasoning and formulation of a problem list.
Students will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required to utilise therapeutic assessment and treatment techniques, to manage patients in specific populations.
The module aims to prepare the student to work in diverse healthcare settings whilst also developing transferable skills (such as problem solving, multidisciplinary team roles, care, empathy) that can be applied in a variety of healthcare settings and specialities.

Aims
This module aims to:
Explore the contribution of physiotherapy in the management of specific populations, within the context of health and social care.
Enable students to transfer knowledge and skills in assessment and therapeutic management to specific populations.

Study hours

41 tutor led hours which include:
~ 35 hours lectures,
~ 4 hours workshops and tutorials and
~ 2 hour assessment preparation.
109 hours independent study includes:
~ 9 hours guided study and asynchronous content
~ 98 hours student led independent study
~ 2 hours of guided assessment preparation.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Oral Exam weighted 100%
Thirty minute oral seen examination
A thirty minute oral examination. The examination will explore element/s of physiotherapy management of a chosen case
