Description for 2022/23

This module forms part of the MSc and MSci Physiotherapy programmes at Keele which is an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for clinical practice in changing health and social care settings.
The 'Research Project' module builds on the 'Research Proposal' and 'Planning Research' modules for each programme and enables the student the opportunity to implement the research proposal presented in the previous module and produce a structured written report of their work. The module aims to develop a students ability to carry out subsequent research independently and commission, manage and evaluate the research activities of others.

Aims
To further develop the student's research skills to design, execute and report on a research project.
To develop research skills to promote the student¿s ability to independently conduct research and be able to commission, manage and evaluate the research activities of others.

Intended Learning Outcomes

identify, extract, compare and critique relevant evidence related to a specific research question: 1

Study hours

41 tutor led hours which may include lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials and individual project supervision. The majority of sessions are provided to support and prepare for the assignment.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Research Report weighted 100%
A report of up to 4500 words including a structured abstract (up to 250 words)
The final report is developed from a research proposal submitted at the end of a previous module ('Planning Research' and 'Research Proposal' modules depending upon the programme the student is enrolled). Students will be permitted to use the information submitted within the proposal to inform their final report. The assessment comprises a 15% component considering student engagement (proactivity, communication and acting on feedback) with the research process and 85% considering the content and presentation of the report. The 4500 word limit (includes a structured abstract - up to 250 words) requires the student to demonstrate accurate and concise writing whilst maintaining depth of content. This reflects the expectations for journal papers and industry in the sector.
