This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic imaging) programme at Keele. An innovative programme which aims to prepare our graduates for clinical practice in contemporary healthcare settings with evidenced competencies and skills required on registration. This module promotes self assessment and self management fundamental to safe practice.
Aims
To further develop on the knowledge and skill-base acquired through modules C.P 1 and C.P 2. This module trains the student to evaluate their own skill ability and skill-gaps through benchmark assessment and accurate reflections. Skill-set is matched against the Health and Care Professional Council (H.C.P.C) regulatory body 2023 revised standards of practice in preparation for graduation. This module trains the students in personal and professional governance promoting the ability to synthesise information and apply appropriately, safely and respectfully.

20 tutor led hours. ~Synchronous lectures = 13 hrs ~Synchronous workshops = 5 hrs (including interview practice and values-based training)~Assessment preparation = 2 hrs (tutor guided session) 96 hrs Independent study will include~ 84 hrs~ self directed study and 12 hrs of directed self-study which include:~*Pre-reading prep for workshops ~ 3 hrs *Review of micro-lectures ~ 8 x 15 mins each ~ 2 hrs *Directed reading of literature sources ~ 3 hrs *Directed review of 'You tube' videos of external reports , findings and patient feedback into healthcare services. The Francis (2013) & Ockenden (2022) reports~ 2 hrs. *Assessment preparation- formative essay plan ~ 2 hrs 84 hrs of directed study in the clinical environment through supervised clinical practice.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Report weighted 50%1000 word structured reportStudents are required to identify a service improvement within radiographic practice which promotes development and/or improvement of the service. Students submit a specific service development report providing justification, implementation, operational and monitoring considerations and any further recommendations. Service improvements can be inter-professional but must specifically impact upon the radiology service and service users.
2: Reflective Analysis weighted 50%1000 word critical reflectionStudents will reflect on an area of Inter-professional education (I.P.E) normally identified from their practice experience or educational I.P.E events. Reflections will have an inter-disciplinary element and may include approaches to mitigate ethical dilemmas, health professional role identity best practice or relate to patient/ client operational issues e.g. diagnostic pathways impacting upon treatment planning.
3: Practice Based Assessment weighted 0%Portfolio A: Professional CompetencyAssesses those aspects of student competency mapped against the intended learning outcomes of this module: with reference to assessment of overall professional competencies undertaken during Practice Experience.
4: Practice Based Assessment weighted 0%Portfolio B: Radiographic CompetencyAssesses those aspects of student competency mapped against the intended learning outcomes of this module: with reference to assessment of specific radiographic practice competencies undertaken during Practice Experience.
5: Practice Based Assessment weighted 0%Portfolio C: Clinical Assessment CompetencyAssesses those aspects of student competency mapped against the intended learning outcomes of this module: with reference to the mandatory clinical assessments undertaken during Practice Experience. Year 3 competencies: theatre, CT head, adaptation of technique (non ambulant - minimum 2 anatomical areas demonstrating significant case complexity).
