The central aim of this module is to explore how gender is constructed in public narratives. It begins by introducing the conceptual and theoretical feminist frameworks that help us to understand the production and reception of representations of femininities, masculinities, and sexualities, before assessing the ways in which gender intersects with other structures of power, including race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and age. Throughout the module we deconstruct how gender and sexualities have been culturally reproduced through the critical analysis of media texts.
