Description for 2023/24

Writing for Other Platforms looks at existing and potentially alternative ways of putting your creative writing into other forms, especially digital ones. Lectures and seminars look at the ways in which the internet and social media has changed the way we look at creative texts - for good and sometimes for bad - as they have moved away from the page and into less traditional delivery methods.
The module encourages you to take an analytical and critical approach to digital and other non-traditional forms of creative writing, and to consider how your own work might be enhanced or changed by experimenting with common technologies to 'write for other platforms'. You will also be asked to design a piece of digital creative practice, and to reflect on the process for your assessment.

Aims
The module aims to help students classify and analyse the range of non-traditional platforms for the delivery of creative texts, and to raise ideas about how these might be used for their own creative practice. Whilst primarily focused on existing digital platforms, primarily in social media and internet forms, it also considers such platforms as installations, projections and discrete non-textual media delivery systems for creative writing. Through an understanding of the forms and features of such 'alternative texts', the students will produce creative work of their own which uses such platforms.
