This 30-credit module builds upon subject-specific and practical skills that have been developed in previous years of the course to carry out an independent research investigation within an area of volcanology. The module will include project formulation, research design, data collection, data analysis, data interpretation and report production. The completion of this module provides students with experience of a number of subject-specific and professional skills that are essential for employment or academic research in volcanology.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Description of Module Assessment
1: Oral Presentation weighted 10%Oral presentation on progress on independent projectOral presentation of 10 minutes duration, taking place at the end of semester 1, on progress made on the independent project, including preliminary results, preliminary interpretations and forward planning for the remainder of the project.
2: Report weighted 90%Independent Project ReportIndependent project report of approximately 9000 words including figures and tables.
