Description for 2023/24

This course is designed for students with a prior knowledge of French (French 5 or equivalent, e.g. GCSE grade 7-9/A-A*) and it will develop intermediate communication skills in French in everyday situations such as leisure activities, social media, socialising, relating past experiences, or talking about the future.
The core skills listening, speaking, reading and writing will be expanded and communicative competence and awareness of grammar will be developed. Teaching will be based around a series of material that will be supplemented by a range of online and audiovisual activities available on the KLE. There will be a variety of tasks and exercises during each class, such as discussion and role play, listening comprehension and reading; and there will be further study opportunities via KLE that will enable your self-study skills and research for some of the module tasks.
The language level of this module corresponds to A2+ work leading to Level B1 in the European Common Framework for Languages (CEFR).

Aims
This course aims to consolidate existing language skills and further develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as well as general language learning skills.
The course is also designed to offer insights into cultural aspects of contemporary France and of the French speaking world.

School Rules

Admission to the module must be confirmed through completion of a language level self-assessment form.
Students are allowed to undertake only one French module per semester.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Online Tasks weighted 30%
Online Tasks
Students will complete a series of online exercises to assess their reading comprehension, grammar and writing skills in the target language.

2: Class Test weighted 20%
Class Test
Students will complete an in-class test which may include writing a short text in the target language in class.

3: Oral Exam weighted 50%
Spoken interaction assessment
A 8-12 minute spoken interaction assessment to test speaking (productive), listening (receptive) and conversation (interaction) skills. Tasks may include presentation, role play, description or similar and question and answer. If assessments are organised in pairs or groups individual marks will be awarded to each student.
