The module explores global business environments which are central to effective and efficient running of firms operating internationally. By critically engaging with a range of theoretical concepts and developments in managerial practice the module allows students to establish a critical appreciation of the relationship between globalisation and international business. The content of the module enables the students to appreciate economic, political, social and technological influences on firms' internationalisation and performance. A combination of lectures, seminars and engagement with current corporate practice by the means of case study analysis broadens and deepens students' knowledge of global business environments, as well as providing an understanding of how businesses survive, prosper and perish in highly complex global markets.The module benefits home and international students alike. International students have the opportunity to share views developed within their home country business environments and obtain a comparative perspectives when discussing those in the international context.High achieving students will develop theoretical understanding of factors shaping international business environments allowing them to meaningfully analyse it.
Aims
This module is designed to develop an understanding of macro-environment issues. It will provide an understanding of global business outlook, and focus on factors that impact on international business - political, economic, social, technological and cultural issues, and their implications for global businesses. It will also focus on the nature and functioning of firms and on their interaction in the wider business context.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Group Presentation weighted 30%Group PresentationStudents will form groups of 3-5 and give a pre-recorded, online, presentation (via KLE or Teams) on a theme prescribed by the module leader, with some linked reading to enable debate and discussion in class. Students in a group will receive the same mark.
2: Assignment weighted 70%A 2,000 words essay based on one of the country studied during the workshopsStudents will select one of the country-cases analysed during the tutorials and will have to reflect upon the linkages between the nature of the political and legal systems and the economic development of the selected nation. Students are expected to critically use the concepts and frameworks seen during the lectures and tutorials.
