Description for 2023/24

Within this module students will explore a range of conditions that can occur throughout pregnancy and the neonatal period, and the implications for the developing fetus and newborn infant. Students will experience a range of teaching and learning methods to uncover the pathophysiology behind the conditions and the midwifery and medical management.
The scaffolding approach used in this module builds upon the students knowledge gained within year 1 of the midwifery degree programme to prepare the student to be able to provide high quality evidence based care.

Aims
This module aims to develop your knowledge and evidence base regarding conditions affecting fetal development and the newborn infant. This knowledge will enable you to recognise complications, respond promptly with best practice and provide holistic care for the sick and vulnerable neonate.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Study hours

This module will comprise of
100 active learning hours: 45 hours directed study related to module content. 55 hours insitu and asynchronous.
50 independent learning hours;
(self directed learning, reading and assessment preparation.

You will not be able to complete this module unless you are in good academic standing, having successfully completed the previous part/year 1 of your midwifery programme.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Exam weighted 100%
90 minute Anatomy and Physiology examination
A 90-minute A&P examination. Consisting of MCQ¿S and short and long open questions.
