Aims
To enable the development of the relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies required to demonstrate advanced professional practice.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate and reflect on their practice and relevant standards of competence (Advanced Practice Framework (APF) or other relevant framework) in order to identify their own professional development needs and develop a Professional Development Plan (PDP)

Critically review the literature in a chosen area of advanced professional practice and demonstrate how the findings inform their PDP: 1
Demonstrate that they have met the required standard of advanced practice by completing their PDP: 1

Study hours

150 hours, of which up to 30 hours may consist of:
- Meetings with tutor/supervisor
- Initial induction meeting
- Work-based learning
The remainder (120 hours) is by independent study to meet the learning outcomes, plus completion of the reflective portfolio.

School Rules

Applicants must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, or equivalent for pharmacist working overseas, and be working full or part-time. The module is also open to practising health professionals who have studied to at least undergraduate degree level. All applicants must also have the support of their workplace to access patient data where necessary for course learning activities and assessment. It is also available to others working within a healthcare environment, at the discretion of the Programme Manager/Director of PG Studies.
Normally, only applicants with the minimum of a second class degree classification (or equivalent for applicants from outside the UK) in Pharmacy or other health related professional degree will be accepted onto the programme without interview. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The University reserves the right to interview prospective students and take up academic references. The final decision in any case rests with the University. Candidates are also admitted on the basis of perceived and potential competence to complete the programme

Description of Module Assessment

Reflective portfolio
The reflective portfolio will consist of the following elements: 1. Critical evaluation and reflection on practice and chosen standards to identifying their development needs within a specific area of professional practice (ILO 1) 2. A Learning contract (the student will agree specific learning outcomes linked to their development needs with their academic tutor) (ILO 1) 3. A literature review of their chosen area of advanced professional practice (ILO 2) 4. Evidenced reflections on professional practice and structured learning activities to meet the agreed learning outcomes that link to the APF or other relevant framework (ILO3)
