Description for 2023/24

This module is relevant to healthcare professionals with a prior knowledge of a range of research methods and will enable learners to develop their knowledge in order to make an informed choice about research design in the context of their practice. Students should be able to apply their learning to develop a research proposal focusing on an area of their practice and in doing so develop their interest and expertise in research.

Aims
The module will enable learners to apply their prior knowledge of a range of research methods to make an informed choice about research design in the context of their practice. Students should be able to apply their learning to develop a justified research proposal focusing on an area of their practice and in doing so develop their interest and expertise in research.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Make a judicious choice of research design and method to carry out your own research project, ensuring that the research will be of high quality and validity.: 1
Design data collection tools that are appropriate to the aims and objectives of your project.: 1
Demonstrate an understanding of the principle of research governance and ethics and evaluate how these apply to your proposed research.: 1

Study hours

150 hours, of which up to 30 may be face-to-face contact and structured engagement with online resources.
Remainder = open and distance learning, including completion of assessments.

School Rules

Healthcare professionals and others working within a healthcare environment, at the discretion of the Programme Manager/Director of Pg Studies. Candidates will normally have studied to at least undergraduate degree level and/or have relevant work experience.
Candidates must have studied and passed PHA-40161 Introduction to Research Methods.
PHA-40099 Researching and Evaluating Practice is a barred combination
