The aims of the module are to enable students to gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the urinary, nervous, neuro-endocrine, gastro-intestinal, cardio-vascular, reproductive, and immune systems. The study of cross-sectional anatomy will develop knowledge and understanding of the relative positions of organs and structures. The module will explore homeostatic control and feedback mechanisms to assist students' understanding of common pathologies. Drugs used specifically within imaging will be identified; their pharmacology, uses and contraindications will be outlined.
Aims
Students successfully completing this module will be able to evaluate and discuss the anatomy, physiology and pathology of a wide range of body systems of the human body pertinent to the role of Diagnostic Radiographer. The module aims to enable students to gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the anatomy, physiology and common pathologies of the following systems: urinary; nervous; neuro-endocrine; gastro-intestinal; reproductive, cardio-vascular and immune systems with reference to radiographic practice and image interpretation.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Describe and evaluate the physiology and function of the body¿s organ systems and their function in the maintenance of homeostasis;: 1Outline the consequences of individual organ and systems failure, and describe common pathologies of each organ and system;: 1Discuss and evaluate the rationale for inclusion of routinely used drugs within imaging departments, including the pharmacology, their purpose and contraindications.: 1
Scheduled teaching ~ 30 hoursTutorials and directed study ~20 hoursIndependent study and preparation for examinations ~ 100 hours to include 30 hours Directed study using Talis aspire, Complete Anatomy and videos, 35 hours self directed study, 5 hours tutorial support and 28 hours preparation for assessment, 2 hours exam
Description of Module Assessment
1: Exam weighted 100%Insitu online exam, 2hours within the Jack Ashley Digital Health HubThe examination will be a combination of:
Combination of ordered MCQs (20 marks), Short answer questions (40 marks) combining labelling of anatomical diagrams and linking the labelled structures to relevant pathology and long answers labelling of anatomical diagrams and linking the labelled structures to relevant pathology to imaging of that body system (40 marks)
