Description for 2023/24

This module is the clinical placement module for the second year of the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) programme, the student will complete assessments in the areas of in Plain Radiography, CT head and theatre Radiography. The students will reflect on their learning experiences in the clinical environment.

Aims
The module aims to enable the student to develop and reflect upon their personal and professional behaviour within a clinical setting and modify appropriately behaviours and techniques in light of their learning with adequate supervision for a level 5 student.
With the support of Practice Educators, the student will develop radiographic knowledge and skills in a relevant external setting to include General Radiography, Theatre Radiography and Computed Tomography (CT). Focusing specifically on adaptive technique, Computed Tomography Head scans and Fluoroscopy imaging within the assessment structure and undertaking these examinations using evidence-based practice and apropriate radiographic interventions. Interprofessional education will also be covered.

Differentiate between common diagnoses, pathologies and the effectiveness of different Radiography investigations for diagnosis using simple clinical reasoning skills;: 1,4
Appraise own strengths and areas for development and choose the appropriate individuals from whom to seek help;: 1,2,3
Identify and implement the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students within this practice experience.: 1,3,4

Study hours

15 scheduled hours for preparation for practice ~ 10 hours lectures and 5 hours to complete mandatory training Manual handling and CPR.
Placement learning hours - 15 weeks x 37.5hours = 562.5 hours (to meet professional body requirements)

1: Practical Exam weighted 50%
Clinical assessment
Within their PE2A and PE2B placement period, the student will choose (based on their clinical experience and areas of clinical rotation) to complete ONE (1) of a choice of THREE (3) Actual Clinical Encounter (A.C.E) assessments to be completed: 1.CT head A.C.E 2.Theatre A.C.E 3.Plain Imaging A.C.E

2: Assignment weighted 25%
A smart reflection report
A smart reflective report (1000 words) on the students readiness to complete the remaining outstanding clinical assessments for their 3rd year.

3: Review weighted 0%
Mid and end of placement professional competency assessment
A review of the students ability to meet professional competencies outlined by the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students within this practice experience and overall professional behaviour.

4: Viva weighted 25%
VIVA
A 20 minute VIVA on ONE (1) out of the THREE (3) Actual Clinical Encounter (A.C.E) assessments completed in their PE2A and PE2B placement . 1.CT head 2.Theatre 3.Adaptive technique
