Description for 2024/25

This is the second theory module in the first year of a three-year programme leading towards a BSc (Hons) in Adult, Children¿s, Learning Disability or Mental Health Nursing and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
The module focuses on anatomy and pathophysiology of the human body across the lifespan, and also introduces the concepts of genomics and pharmacology. This module will also develop the student nurse¿s awareness of professional responsibility and accountability when assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating people¿s care and will continue to develop their communication skills with people across a range of health settings. This module completes the theoretical modules for the first year of the programme.

Aims
to introduce and explain the principles of clinical sciences (anatomy, physiology, patho-physiology and others) in relation to the nursing practice of mental, physical, behavioural and cognitive health conditions and therapeutic interventions that optimise health and wellness outcomes and develop skills in care planning.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify the principles of human development from conception to death: 2
Identify the structures and functions of the human body and relate these to commonly encountered mental, physical, behavioural and cognitive health conditions, medication usage and therapeutic interventions: 2
