This module enables you to apply fundamentals of nursing care and develop their communication and reflective skills in a clinical practice setting related to your field of practice and in simulated placement learning. Students are supported by a practice supervisor, practice assessor and academic assessor.
Aims
to: introduce you to your chosen field of clinical nursing practice and develop clinical nursing practice knowledge, skills and professional values in your first year. - Learn and practise clinical skills in a simulated environment and apply to practice settings.

Intended Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate safe, effective, compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice in a clinical setting in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) through successful completion of remaining practice proficiencies within the practice assessment document with a focus on fundamentals of nursing practice: 1Demonstrate appropriate, professional interpersonal skills in simulated and clinical practice settings with regard to their field of practice, service users and multi-professional team members: 1,2Demonstrate effective, defined fundamental nursing practice knowledge and skills to support the health and care needs of a service user in their field of nursing during a timed episode of care in a clinical setting with a focus on accurate assessment of needs, supportive management, health promotion, knowledge of safeguarding, and demonstration of professional values: 2Reflect on development of self-management skills in nursing to develop reflective practice and aid the integration of theory and practice learning.: 2,3
Breakdown of active learning hours- In situ- 34hrs (Lectures, seminars, tutorial, workshops, practical classes, assessment preparation and simulation) Synchronous- 10hrs (Lectures, tutorials)Asynchronous - 40hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work) Placement learning hours- 300hrs Independent study hours - 216hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation) Due to the dynamic nature of nursing programmes, the above breakdown may be subject to alteration.
