This module enables you to explore the human life journey from conception to death recognising that public health is the cornerstone to all nursing practice. In so doing you will develop an understanding of public health, health protection and health promotion and their significance to your developing nursing practice. Through undertaking this module, you will raise your awareness and understanding of the wider determinants of health, health inequalities including social influences and health behaviours. You will be equipped with the skills to undertake a health needs assessment report using a demographic profile and identifying a population group which will provide a basis for you to examine the impact and influence of genomics on the human life journey, its diversity and population health. You will also focus on the importance of early years and childhood experiences, exploring the rationale for immunisation, and the impact upon the life course and suspected health outcomes.
Aims
To:- Enable you to develop an understanding of theories models and practices promoting health and well being and preventing ill-health. Develop your understanding of global patterns of health and well-being outcomes and how these impact on life choices. - Examine the role of the nurse in promoting health and wellness.

Breakdown of active learning hours - In situ- 36hrs, Synchronous-12hrs (Lectures, discussion, seminars, tutorials, workshops, assessment preparation) Asynchronous- 15hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work) assessment preparation-12hrsIndependent study- 225hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation) Due to the dynamic nature of nursing programmes, the above breakdown may be subject to alteration.
You will not be able to complete this module unless you are in good academic standing, having successfully completed the previous part/year 2 of your BSc programme
