As a registered nurse, you¿need to understand how the quality and effectiveness of nursing care can be evaluated in practice, to be able to improve service delivery and people¿s experience of healthcare. Within this module, you will be encouraged to explore and appraise a topic of your choice, based on your experiences, that will enhance nursing practice in your field of nursing.¿ You will be encouraged to work independently to confidently synthesise literature findings in order to make recommendations for¿ practice,, which can lead to opportunities to disseminate your findings e.g through publication.¿
Aims
To develop critical appraisal skills in independent study to write a dissertation that evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing care within your field of nursing and to disseminate to a wider audience.

Intended Learning Outcomes
Utilise a range of evidence from professional nursing practice to identify and justify a topic area for exploration.: 1Effectively communicate and design a dissertation aim derived from the issue that relates to their own field of professional practice.: 1Undertake a structured search to identify relevant academic literature, including research, policies, guidelines and standards of professional practice.: 1Conduct a comprehensive review of the available literature and critically engage with and systematically analyse a range of relevant evidence.: 1Synthesise findings from research to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and provide further insight into the chosen topic area and identified issue from nursing practice.: 1Critically analyse the implications of the findings and make recommendations for continuing service improvement in future nursing care.: 1
Breakdown of active learning hours- In situ- 9hrs plus 6 hrs of supervision (Lectures, discussion, seminars, tutorials, workshops, assessment preparation) Asynchronous- 5hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work) Breakdown of independent study hours- Independent study- 280hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation) Due to the dynamic nature of nursing programmes, the above breakdown may be subject to alteration.
You will not be able to complete this module unless you are in good academic standing, having successfully completed the previous part/year 2 of your BSc programme
