The module introduces the normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems; providing a basic introduction to movement science. The module reflects the shifting emphasis away from increasing the quantity of care towards enhancing the quality of care, moving away from a medical disease model towards a health model based on personal responsibility, prevention of disease, improvement in performance.
Aims
This module aims to introduce students to anatomical and physiological aspects of the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems, in relation to understanding the effects of healthy ageing and exertion on the human body.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Describe the anatomy and physiology of the human neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems: 1Apply aspects of anatomy and physiology to health and exercise, examining the acute effects of exertion or injury on the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems.: 1Use appropriate anatomical and physiological terminology within all descriptions of human neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems: 1Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body that are relevant to physical activity: 1Assess and initiate analysis of normal anatomical presentation and physiological function in the neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems using the principles of movement science: 1
Active learning includes:~33 hours of teaching via classroom and seminars~3 hours of tutorials~20 hours of directed study~94 hours of independent study that is student led.
