Description for 2024/25

The module introduces exercise testing and assessment of physical activity and fitness within healthy populations.
There is a strong focus on building communication skills relevant for professionals post graduation and offering them skills they may be able to apply outside of university whilst studying.

Aims
This module aims to introduce students to the principles and assessments of health, physical activity and fitness across a healthy population.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Introduce and interpret measures of health at rest and pre-activity screening, to determine contraindications, precautions and adaptations to participate in an exercise test: 1
Perform and interpret measures of aerobic power, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body composition: 1
Communicate effectively to participants/ clients when performing testing procedures: 1
Integrate measures of physical activity and fitness, into an overall health profile: 1

Study hours

Active learning includes:
~33 hours of teaching via classroom and seminars
~3 hours of tutorials
~20 hours of directed study
