Description for 2024/25

The module introduces concepts of the roles for nutrition and physical activity as drivers for positive communities.
This module offers students the opportunity to built their literature searching and application knowledge, skills that are crucial to success within any degree programme.

Aims
The module aims to introduce students to the concepts of public health and common public goals and to discuss the role of physical activity and nutrition in maintaining positive public health. The students will use literature to understand and to discuss common public health goals.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify medical health risks in the context of key chronic health concerns/diseases (e.g. obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer): 1
Identify the concepts of public health evidence in relation to physical activity and nutrition: 1
Describe how the public¿s health is influenced by the social and physical environment in which people live and how this impacts on their sedentariness, physical inactivity, exercise, fitness and nutrition: 1
Discuss appropriate literature to support written work: 1
