By studying this module students will gain key insights into the modern corporate firm. Students will start with the fundamentals of capital budgeting where they will learn how to value successful investment projects. This will be followed by analysis of the capital structure of the modern firm and the role that debt and equity in different proportions play in the success of firms. Students will then go on to explore the reasons why firms pay dividends and the factors that lead to mergers of firms or acquisition of one firm by another. This module will also prepare students to sit for the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) exam.
Aims
This module introduces students to the modern firm. Students will explore ways of assessing and valuing firms. They will also explore the relationship between equity and debt and how this constitutes to the foundation of the modern firm.
