By studying this module students will gain key insights into the key roles that will be played by the capital markets and financial services firms such as banks and insurance companies in transitioning to a sustainable world. The key scientific evidence behind climate change and the key factors that are causing climate change are also examined. This module will then go on to consider some of the unique financial products which have been developed to mitigate the impact of climate change such as green bonds.
Aims
The aim of this module is to provide students with up to date knowledge on the emerging field of green/sustainable finance. Students will start by considering the scientific evidence for climate change and how this change will have a detrimental impact on the value of assets. They will further examine how the corporate sector is responding to this existential challenge and how this is leading to innovations in the development of new businesses and new financial products such as green bonds.
