This is a specialist area of employment law and particularly employment practice. The interpretation of the law in this area is complex and builds upon an understanding of both Unfair Dismissal and contracts of employment. This module looks at discrimination claims purely from an employment perspective. This module focuses primarily on the contentious aspects of discrimination claims and investigation. It will appeal to HR professionals, graduates from different disciplines but also junior lawyers interested in this area of legal work.

Intended Learning Outcomes
Critically analyse how a claim of discrimination may arise in relation to the protected characteristics identified in the Equality Act 2010 and associated legislation and caselaw.: 1Critically evaluate the scope of the legislation and case law in relation to the prohibited acts of discrimination arising from the Equality Act 2010 and associated legislation.: 1Analyse and apply the relevant defences or potential defences which may apply to a claim of discrimination and what alternative methods of dispute resolution may be utilised for resolution of a complaint.: 1Outline the relevant procedural requirements and role of the Employment Tribunal in resolution of a claim, identifying issues of quantum analysing the range of awards available for discrimination claims using caselaw.: 1Critically analyse the often conflicting and contradictory caselaw in the multifaceted and intersectional areas of discrimination: 1Reflect on their own personal and professional development : 2
