The module aims to enable student acquirement of advanced laboratory practical competencies and high level analytical skills. The module will be delivered through laboratory practicals supported by additional resources and will provide students with a firm understanding of the principles and the laboratory skills of some of the important modern techniques in the field of Biomedical Science. Laboratory practicals will take place in specialist well equipped laboratories. Besides the practical skills, students will gain confidence in analysing, interpreting, evaluating and presenting experimental data.
Aims
The module aims to give the students a working knowledge of the modern established technologies that are applicable to research in Biomedical Science and how these techniques can be used to generate and interpret information/knowledge. Students will also gain the skills to analyse, present, interpret and critically evaluate biomedical data.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Report weighted 25%Lab report 1Lab report I - A 1500 word lab report comprising a review of the background literature, a detailed methodology section and presentation, interpretation and in-depth discussion of their data.
2: Poster Presentation weighted 35%PosterPoster - A poster comprising a background literature review, a detailed methodology section, an interpretation and an in-depth discussion of the data.
3: Report weighted 40%Lab report 2Lab report II - A 1500 word lab report comprising a review of the background literature, a detailed methodology section and presentation, interpretation and in-depth discussion of their data.
4: Competence weighted 0%Lab competenceLaboratory competence during practical sessions. Students will have their competence assessed by a staff member, and their lab book will be signed accordingly.
