Description for 2024/25

Esports has grown exponentially over the last 10 years and whilst it continues to face challenges and barriers, the industry goes from strength to strength. This module will provide you with the applied business skills and knowledge, allowing you to understand how esports has grown to the extent that it has and contrast the approaches taken by various esports teams and organisations. This knowledge will allow you to gain a key foundational knowledge how the esports industry works, underpinning the rest of the modules within your degree.

Aims
This module aims to provide students with the understanding and contexts behind the growth of esports and to contrast the approaches of esports teams from a management and marketing perspective.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Essay weighted 50%
1000 word individual essay on the growth of the esports industry
Students will write a 1000 word essay on the management and marketing factors that have led to the growth of the esports industry, taking into account various topics from the indicative content and the thoughts of academic colleagues in this area.

2: Report weighted 50%
1500 word report on the management and marketing approaches of two esports teams.
Individually, students should compare the marketing and management approaches of two esports teams of their choice, in a 1500 word report.
