Description for 2024/25

This module provides insight to the important field of supply chain management, taking an international perspective. It establishes and explores the main concerns for decision making in the strategic design of supply networks, including, factors that impact supply, make or buy decisions, supply and logistics configurations and strategic supplier selection, development and relations. It also covers the operational aspects of supply including inventory management, purchasing and procurement management.

Aims
To trace supply chain management from its origins as a commercial function in the business and highlight its current role as a dynamic strategic process.
To introduce theories and conceptual models for make and buy decisions, transactional costing, buyer-supplier relationships and supply chains.
To demonstrate the application and operation of supply chain principles in practice in contemporary international businesses.
To explore and critically analyse current best practices in procurement, supply and logistics.
To encourage critical thinking in the management of international supply chains.
