Description for 2024/25

Leading and managing nursing care effectively is a key feature of future nursing practice as a registered nurse, and forms one of the seven platforms of pre-registration nursing education (NMC 2018). This module will enable the student to gain further knowledge and understanding relating to the theoretical principles of leadership and management, reflecting on their own leadership qualities and behaviours. It also focuses on the cost effectiveness of the provision of nursing care, and how a business case would be developed to support the funding of an initiative in nursing practice.

Aims
To:
Critically analyse the principles of effective leadership and management of nursing care, including development of personal leadership behaviours
Articulate how nurses can be empowered to effectively influence future care provision, including cost effectiveness of nursing care.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Critically appraise the principles of health economics and their relevance to resource allocation in health and social care organisations and other agencies

Breakdown of active learning hours-
In situ- 24hrs (Lectures, discussion, seminars, tutorials, workshops, assessment preparation)
Asynchronous- 8hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work)
