This module will enable you to consolidate your nursing practice, focusing on leading nursing care for people with complex needs, managing teams to support a group of people, prioritising needs, and delegating appropriately, applying research to evidence-based practice, and using safe clinical judgment and decision-making in your clinical placements. You will critically reflect on your own personal and professional development throughout this module. You will be supported by a practice supervisor and academic assessor, and you will be assessed in practice by a separate practice assessor.
Aims
to Consolidate your clinical nursing practice knowledge, skills and professional values, during your nursing placement in your chosen field of nursing practice. - Learn and practise clinical skills in a simulated environment and apply in practice settings - Enhance your critical reflective practice skills to aid integration of theory and practice learning
Intended Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate safe, effective, compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice in a clinical setting in the third year of the programme in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) through successful completion of remaining practice proficiencies within the practice assessment document, including appropriate nursing leadership, clinical judgement and decision-making: 1Demonstrate appropriate, professional interpersonal skills in simulated and clinical practice settings with regard to their field of practice using a diverse range of communication and relationship management skills with people with healthcare needs and when working with and managing teams: 1,2,3Apply defined knowledge and synthesis of skills and behaviours to lead a specific episode of person-centred care to meet the needs of a group of people with complex needs, including being a role model, understanding of team roles and responsibilities, and service evaluation and improvement: 2Critically reflect on own development of leadership and resilience in nursing practice: 2,3Review the structures and functions of the human body and relate these to commonly encountered mental, physical, behavioural and cognitive health conditions, medication usage and therapeutic interventions: 2
Breakdown of scheduled teaching hours- In situ- 11hrs/Synchronous-11hrs (Lectures, discussion, seminars, tutorials, workshops, assessment preparation and simulation) Asynchronous- 8hrs (Guided independent study including preparation for scheduled sessions, follow up work)Placement Learning hours 450hrs Breakdown of independent study hours- Independent study- 120hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation) Due to the dynamic nature of nursing programmes, the above breakdown may be subject to alteration.
You will not be able to complete this module unless you are in good academic standing, having successfully completed the previous part/year 1 of your MSc programme
