Description for 2023/24

This module supports your early career journey as a nurse, by developing confidence in your reflective skills and professional frameworks. You will be introduced to principles of teamworking and the impact on healthcare organisations. Understanding the influence of your professional self it will complement your professional development as you assimilate your new role as a early career nurse. Emphasis will be placed on peer supported learning and fostering your skills as an independent learner

Aims
To develop your reflexivity skills, enhance understanding of professional frameworks and leadership qualities, to support your early career development as a nurse, in health and/or social care settings

Intended Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate critical reflection on your early nursing career journey within complex health and/or social care systems, utilising recognised professional frameworks: 1
Critically explore the role of the preceptor and preceptee in relation to continuous professional development in nursing

Critically evaluate and synthesise principles of teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making, delegation and conflict resolution; as part of your role within inter-professional teams and managing service provision.: 2
Critically appraise and evaluate principles of effective leadership, management and group dynamics and their relationship to health and social care organisations.: 2

Study hours

Breakdown of active hours-
In situ 40hrs - seminars and master classes (real time and recorded)
Guided Study 25hrs - including, weekly online drop-in group tutorials
Asynchronous 60hrs - including online flipped classroom activities, podcasts, assessment cafes discussion boards, blogs action learning sets, follow up work
Breakdown of independent study hours-
Independent study - 140hrs (Wider reading, revision, assessment preparation)
Preceptorship workshops - 35 hrs,

Description of Module Assessment

1: Reflective Diary weighted 50%
Reflexive Video Diary
Utilising digital platforms and the underpinning principles from the preceptorship framework, you will create a 10 minute video diary exploring preceptorship and your continuous profession development as a newly registered nurse,

2: Reflective Analysis weighted 50%
3000 word Patchwork Text Journal
You will create in a patchwork text journal which comprises a series of six 500 words connected patches. Each patch is complete in itself but when taken together with other patches provide overall unity in meeting the learning outcomes.
