�In today�s health and care services, the roles of community nurses are changing and expanding, requiring higher levels of clinical autonomy, knowledge and skill in order to achieve their full potential and to contribute to the delivery of services for the benefit of the people they serve." (NMC, 2022, p3).
As well as the NMC (2022) Standards of proficiency for Community Nursing Specialist Practice Qualifications, the QNI (2023) have produced specific District Nursing Standards for Specialist Practitioner Qualifications and these QNI standards underpin this District Nurse Specialist Practice module.
The module not only provides evidence of holistic District Nursing clinical practice and core knowledge and skills, but reflects the advanced nature of todays District Nursing practice.
All students who complete the District Nursing Specialist Practice module as part of the PgDip (traditional and Apprenticeship routes) Community Nurse Specialist Practice (District Nursing) programme will demonstrate this level of advanced practice.
Aims
This module aims to prepare Community Nursing Specialist Practice (District Nursing) students to develop advanced knowledge, skills and behaviours to enable them to deliver evidence based holistic care, lead and manage teams, complex caseloads, prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, and promote patient comfort and safety
Intended Learning Outcomes
apply advanced knowledge, skills and behaviours to assess, diagnose, plan and evaluate the person centered, evidence based, holistic care needs of people encountered in practice who may have a range of mental, physical, cognitive, behavioural, social or spiritual needs.: 2
critically discuss the application of relevant legal, regulatory and governance requirements, policies and professional and ethical frameworks, to ensure safety and quality of care.: 2
critically discuss and demonstrate care co-ordination and compassionate leadership when managing community nursing, interdisciplinary and interagency, teams to promote equality, diversity and inclusion, support individual professionals wellbeing, motivate, and encourage team cohesion and productivity.: 2
review, reflect and appraise one�s own accountable and autonomous professional practice and apply a strategic perspective in planning continuing professional development.: 1,2
Blended approach to teaching using in situ and online taught sessions which will include lectures, seminars, web based activities such as tests; videos; podcasts = 170 hours over the duration of the course (Full time 52 weeks / Part time 104 weeks).
Self directed study, portfolio development, assessment preparation, wider reading = 120 hours over the duration of the course (Full time 52 weeks / Part time 104 weeks).
10 hours - tripartite reviews, PA meetings over the duration of the course (Full time 52 weeks / Part time 104 weeks).
Can not be undertaken with NUR 40032 (this is the module that this is replacing)
