Description for 2024/25

This is a part-time module that forms part of the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education. It is designed to complement the UK Professional Skills Framework (UKPSF) and aligns with the Knowledge domains (A1-A5) at level 2.
This module is designed for individuals who, within their healthcare role, are involved in the assessment of students or in the development of assessment items/programmes at undergraduate or postgraduate level, within primary, secondary or tertiary care. Individuals will understand the theory of, and be able to develop a range of assessment items that can be used to assess student progress.
The module will focus on how to write assessment items and develop the skills and understanding needed to ensure that assessments are valid and reliable. Individuals will gain experience in the process of assessment emendation and standard setting and will be equipped to arrange and run both sessions. Further, post-assessment performance will be discussed and individuals will be able to calculate and reflect on assessment performance using a range of statistical measures.
The module will be taught through a number of methods including didactic teaching, group work, workshop based activities, discussion and observation and will allow individuals to apply concepts to their own area of interest.

Aims
The module aims to provide an understanding of how to develop assessment items and programmes in clinical education and provide an overview of assessment development, emendation, standard setting, psychometric analysis and feedback.
