Description for 2024/25

This final year module focuses on the development of health and social policy in the UK and the relationships between government, society and policy, building on modules on previous years of the programme. You will learn more about policy development. implementation and the impact on public health in contemporary society. This wider understanding of the political agenda relating to public health may be useful in a range of future career settings with a health and wellbeing focus.

Aims
This module will enable the student to investigate and analyse the development and implementation of health and social policy in the UK and the relationships between government, society and policy. Students will be supported to consider particular topics in policy related to the determinants of health e.g. housing, education, and welfare, from a range of perspectives. Health policy will be examined to enable students to understand key drivers and influences underpinning policy development and change.

25 hours face to face teaching: 15 hours lectures, 8 hours group work, 2 hour group debate
