This module is the final Practice Placement of the MSc Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) programme at Keele; the first UK rep-registration MSc in Prosthetics and Orthotics, an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for clinical practice in contemporary health and social care settings. Practice Placement 7 builds on content delivered throughout Year 1 and earlier in Year 2 of the programme. The placement module enables the student, through additional P&O practice experience, to further develop, apply and enhance comprehension and skills, with particular focus on refining clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, in both assessment and service user management approaches. The module will prepare the student to work in diverse healthcare settings whilst also develop transferable allied health professional skills (i.e. multidisciplinary team working, leadership and advance communication) that can be applied in a variety of healthcare settings and specialties.
Aims
This module aims to: Refine and synthesis the students P&O comprehension and skills to effectively and efficiently critically reason and analyse their inclusions for and demonstrate an effective assessment and critically evaluate options for, fit and modify as necessary an appropriate evidence-based individualised service user prosthesis or orthotic device. With additional focus for the student to critically evaluate and appraise evidence-based P&O assessment and management approaches and apply this knowledge to efficiently and effectively demonstrate advanced skills in service user management in a clinical setting.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Effectively contribute to service user integrated care by demonstrating effective and concise communication skills with service users, carers and members of the inter-professional team: 1Perform, justify and modify (when necessary) a P&O assessment, and subsequently identify a (prioritized) problem list to meet individual service users¿ needs (with minimal supervision): 1Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and assessment skills, efficiently identifying service user problems, differentiating between patient diagnoses: 1Design, provide and modify as necessary evidence-based effective P&O management interventions: 1Integrate and apply research evidence into P&O assessment and service user management plans: 1Handle and record service user information in accordance with professional and regulatory body guidance/requirements, placement base policies, legal and ethical frameworks: 1Proactively demonstrate management skills by directing and managing own learning and workload as well as delegating to others by efficient planning, organising and prioritising work activities and service user caseloads: 1Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of the HCPC Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students and BAPO Standards of Best Practice.: 1
