This module forms part of the MSci Physiotherapy programme at Keele which is an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for clinical practice in changing health and social care settings. The 'Research Project' module builds on the 'Planning Research' module and enables the student the opportunity to implement the research proposal presented in the previous module and produce a structured written report of their work. The module aims to develop a student's ability to carry out subsequent research independently and commission, manage and evaluate the research activities of others.
Aims
To further develop the student's research skills to design, execute and report on a research project. To develop research skills to promote the student¿s ability to independently conduct research and be able to commission, manage and evaluate the research activities of others.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Identify, extract, compare and critique relevant evidence related to a specific research question: 1Demonstrate intellectual rigour in the organisation, manipulation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data that is coherent with a specific research question: 1Summarise, compare, contrast and synthesise research findings in a research report: 1Produce a report of appropriate style, organisation and structure, which is communicated to a high level of written English and displays evidence of critical thinking, independence of thought and an understanding of advanced concepts and methods related to research: 1Independently lead a research project to completion (incorporating organisational, time management, communication, collaborative working and IT skills): 1
40 tutor-led hours, including in situ lectures ~12 hours, workshops and seminars ~16 (using 50% in situ and 50% synchronous sessions), tutorials ~ 6 hours, individual project supervision ~6 hours and guided independent study ~40 hours for the conducting research project and report writing as suggested by their supervisor/s. The majority of sessions are provided to support and prepare for the assignment. 220 hours of independent study that may include but is not limited to literature search and synthesis (~ 70 hours), data collection and analysis (~ 70 hours), wider reading, drafting the research project report, formatting tables and figures and referencing (~ 80 hours) depending on the nature of the project and suggestions from the project supervisor/s.
Ethical approval would be required on certain projects.

1: Research Report weighted 100%A report of up to 4500 words including a structured abstract (up to 250 words)
