Description for 2024/25

The aims of the module are to enable students to gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the urinary, nervous, neuro-endocrine, gastro-intestinal, cardio-vascular, reproductive, and immune systems. The study of cross-sectional anatomy will develop knowledge and understanding of the relative positions of organs and structures. The module will explore homeostatic control and feedback mechanisms to assist student understanding of common pathologies. Drugs used specifically within imaging will be identified; their pharmacology, uses and contraindications will be outlined.

Aims
Students successfully completing this module will be able to evaluate and discuss the anatomy, physiology and pathology of a wide range of body systems of the human body pertinent to the role of Diagnostic Radiographer.
The module aims to enable students to gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the anatomy, physiology and common pathologies of the following systems: urinary; nervous; neuro-endocrine; gastro-intestinal; reproductive, cardio-vascular and immune systems with reference to radiographic practice and image interpretation.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Describe and evaluate the physiology and function of the body¿s organ systems and their function in the maintenance of homeostasis;: 1,2
Outline the consequences of individual organ and systems failure, and describe common pathologies of each organ and system;: 1,2
Discuss and evaluate the rationale for inclusion of routinely used drugs within imaging departments, including the pharmacology, their purpose and contraindications.: 1,2
