Description for 2024/25

This module is the clinical placement module for the third year of the BSc Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) apprentice route, the apprentice will complete assessments in the areas of in General Radiography, CT head and Theatre Radiography. The apprentice will reflect on these learning experiences.

Aims
To enable the apprentice to develop and reflect upon their personal and professional behaviour in a clinical setting and modify appropriately in light of their learning with adequate supervision.
With the support of Practice Educators, the apprentice will develop Radiography knowledge and skills in a relevant external setting to include General Radiography, Theatre Radiography and Computed Tomography (CT). Focusing specifically on adaptive technique, Computed Tomography Head scans and Fluoroscopy imaging and undertaking these examinations using evidence-based practice and Radiography interventions. Interprofessional education will also be covered.

Differentiate between common diagnoses, pathologies and the effectiveness of different radiological investigations for diagnosis using simple clinical reasoning skills: 1,2,4

Identify and implement the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Apprentice within this practice experience: 3,4

Study hours

2 hours scheduled teaching
Independent study:
Reflective practice teaching and preparation for practice: 8 hours asynchronous teaching via teams,30 independent study for preparation for assessments, 5 hours non-directed tutorial preparation and 30 hours self-directed assessment preparation.
Assessment hours:
Reflective analysis preparation for coursework: 30 hours
Assessment preparation for the EPA professional discussion: 70 hours
225 hours placement (6 x 37.5hours)

1: Practical Exam weighted 50%

Within their PE3 placement period, the apprentice will choose (based on their clinical experience and areas of clinical rotation) to complete ONE (1) of a choice of THREE (3) Actual Clinical Encounter (A.C.E) assessments to be completed (one of these will have been achieved in the PE2A period): 1. CT head ACE 2. Theatre ACE 3. Plain imaging ACE

Endpoint clinical competencies assessment
A review of the students ability to meet professional competencies outlined by the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students within this practice experience and overall professional behaviour.

4: Viva weighted 0%
Endpoint Professional discussion as required by the apprentice standards
90 minute viva. The independent assessors will conduct and assess the professional discussion. The professional discussion must last for 90 minutes. The independent assessor must ask a minimum of 18 questions with a minimum of 6 questions per area, plus follow up questions and has the discretion to increase the time of the professional discussion by up to 10% to allow the apprentice to complete their last answer. Further time may be granted for apprentices with appropriate needs, in-line with the EPAO¿s Reasonable Adjustments Policy. During this method, the independent assessor must combine questions from the EPAO's question bank, which will be designed to allow the apprentice to demonstrate their KSBs related to this assessment method and ask follow-up questions in the areas outlined by the EPAO. The professional discussion will be conducted as set out here: This assessment method will comprise of 3 areas where the apprentice will undertake a 1:1 face-to-face professional discussion with an independent assessor for all 3 areas, which are: Area 1 - Adverse/challenging scenario Area 2 ¿ Service and personal improvement Area 3 ¿ Professional standards, statutory/regulatory requirements
