Description for 2024/25

This module will develop and build upon the previous understanding of critical theories and expands on identifying how these theories (alongside organisational theories) inform social work knowledge and literature. This module will thus enhance critical thinking by analysing social work in its broader organisational and socio-political context.

Aims
The aim of the module is to develop students' understanding and knowledge of theories and literature relating to the nature of organisations and professional identity and leadership, as well as further developing an awareness of the contexts of social work and the way in which practice is organised and delivered.

critically analyse ideas associated with the origins, history and development of the profession and literature surrounding social work in a range of international and inter-professional contexts: 1
identify and evaluate key ideas embedded in critical social work theories and consider these in the context of professional identity and the role/s of social work: 1

analyse and evaluate organisational theories in order to further demonstrate critical understanding of the contexts of social work policy, leadership and practice: 1
