This module will consist of lectures, research skills exercises and tutor-guided individual and group study covering the following areas: enquiry into the nature of research and specifically social work research; aspects of research including methodology, research ethics, role of researcher, data collection and analysis; practical consideration of the research project including area of research, developing research questions, evaluating the relevant literature, developing the methods of enquiry (data collection and analysis). This module will build the foundations for the future dissertation module.
Aims
This module aims to develop students¿:¿knowledge of research methodology, methods and processes that are relevant to social work theory and practice, and can be applied to small scale research studies and relevant literature;¿understanding of the role of values and ethics in the research process;¿critical skills in evaluating, synthesising and applying research knowledge;¿skills in developing and planning a research project or literature review.
