Description for 2024/25

This module will cover a variety of topics associated with adult social work and mental health, focusing on the underpinning skills, knowledge and values necessary to practice social work with adults. The module will also cover the legal framework, and the social policy context within which adult social work takes place. This module will develop students critical understanding of the knowledge, skills and values necessary for social work practice with adults. It seeks to understand the policy context of professional practice, the professional challenges of risk, autonomy and multidisciplinary working.

Aims
The module aims to enhance the students¿ evidence-based knowledge and analytical skills of working with adults, including with service users who live with mental health issues, as well as considering adult development or life-stage issues. The module will aim to equip students with knowledge of the policy context of adult social work, and an understanding of some of the key issues with regard to multi professional collaboration.
