Symptom Patterns and life with Longer Term COVID-19 in children and young people

SPLaT-19

Symptom patterns and life with post-acute COVID-19 in children and young people (SPLaT-19): an observational prospective cohort study and linked qualitative study.

This research is about Long COVID in children and is really interested in the experience of ALL children and young people over the course of the pandemic. 'Long COVID' is an illness in which symptoms of COVID-19 infection last at least 4 weeks. Adults with Long COVID describe tiredness, feeling short of breath and having pain. We know from social media that children and young people also get Long COVID but we don’t yet understand what Long COVID is like for this group of people.

The research aims to answer questions like, what health problems do children and young people with Long COVID have? How long does it take for them to get better? Which children and young people might get Long COVID? How does Long COVID affect children’s lives?

We are inviting all children and young people aged 8-17 years old who are registered with one of the GP surgeries who are involved in our research. We want to include people in this age group whether or not they have had COVID-19.
