If you are an international student and not a native speaker of English, or have received your education in a language other than English, you may be pre-allocated an English Language module as one of your modules, to help you build the academic English skills that you will depend on for success with your degree studies.
If you are a new student, on arrival at Keele, part of the Induction Week will include an introduction to the Language Centre and a Sample of Academic English. The sample helps us know if academic language support would be helpful for you, right from the start. Based on the results and in consultation with Language Centre staff there are two possible outcomes: your ENL- enrolment may be confirmed, and you will be allocated one of the English Language modules below or you may be advised that you can replace it with another module of your choice. Check eVision and your online timetable, available through the 'Office' tab of the KLE, for module details and meeting times.
If you are a continuing student and are allocated an English Language module but you do not wish to take it. You should contact the Language Centre to discuss - they may release you from the requirement to take the module after your discussion. Remember the English Language modules build on the academic English skills that you will depend on for success with your degree studies.
