COVID 19 FAQs

The costs associated with covid testing can be claimed through staff expenses if it is required for international travel.

For staff booking travel and/or accommodation (now all must be done via Key Travel), there is a link on the homepage of Key Travel will which direct you to Boots where discounts are available if booking with Key Travel.

The travel policy has a Cancellation & Curtailment section. This will, providing your cover is valid as per above, reimburse any unrecoverable or additional costs.

Initially you must contact your travel provider (airline/travel agent etc.) to seek full refund or suitable re-booking arrangement. If this cannot be obtained, then you will need to get documentary proof from the travel provider that they will not refund any monies and the trip is fully cancelled.

Further details on making a claim can be found at: - https://www.keele.ac.uk/finance/insurance/travelinsurance/studenttravelinsurance/

The policy has unlimited cover for medical emergencies and emergency treatment should you need any. All local COVID related procedures and policies must be followed.

Any FCO advice must be followed as failure to do so will invalidate your cover (such as being required to return home as soon as possible). All cover remains valid such as medical emergency cover.

If you do not return home at the earliest possible opportunity following a change in government advice then your insurance cover may not be valid

Unless there is a valid reason such as medical issue which a doctor/consultant can confirm in writing, a personal choice not to travel is known as “disinclination to travel” and any associated costs will NOT be covered by University insurance

If quarantine/isolation rules exist before travelling, then this is classed as a “known” event and no claim for costs can be made. You must factor the local rules into your costs and plans before travelling.

If rules change whilst abroad then you may be able to claim for additional costs.

If medically diagnosed, then this is a valid reason for not being able to travel and a claim for unrecoverable costs can be made providing a doctor/consultant can provide written confirmation that you should not travel and have to self-isolate as per Government rules.
