An upcoming exhibition will highlight work by artists from around the world created to support vital Keele University research into global health.
Run in collaboration with ArtsKeele, the ANGLES-ECLIPSE joint exhibition will showcase paintings, photographs and creative installations by artists who are affiliated with ANGLES and ECLIPSE, two global health research programmes led by Keele researchers.
The exhibition is aligned with Keele’s Institute for Global Health, which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the most vulnerable populations in low and middle income countries around the world.
ANGLES is an “artistic engagement in global health residence scheme”, for socially engaged artists which explores the relationship between art, community engagement, and global health research, and provides an opportunity for artists who are committed to delivering policy-focused, socially engaged art. The ANGLES residency scheme is funded by Research England through QR Global Challenges Research Funding
ECLIPSE is a four-year NIHR global health programme which aims to improve the patient journey for people living with cutaneous leishmaniasis and help them to deal with the stigma associated with the condition. The project is led by Keele’s Dr Helen Price and Professor Lisa Dikomitis, and involves 60 researchers, clinicians and artists based in Brazil, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and the UK. The ECLIPSE programme is funded by the UK’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) with UK Aid.
The exhibition is supported by Research England through QR GCRF funding and the UK’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Global Health programme with UK Aid, and includes work by ANGLES resident artists Raiça Bomfim and Martine Vandevelde.
Professor Lisa Dikomitis said: “This exhibition shows our work at the intersection of arts, social sciences and medicine. I am delighted we are able to showcase our global health work through creative work in a wide range of formats. Each artist used a different expressive language to convey some of the urgent health challenges we are conducting research on; the pandemic, communities under threat, and neglected diseases.”
The exhibition will run from 12th October to 5th December 2021 in the Keele Art Gallery - Chancellor's Building, with a preview night being held on Tuesday 12th October, starting at 6pm. For more information and to register your attendance, click here.
